The founder of the present Bawany Family was late Ahmed Ebrahim Bawany. He established his business activities at Rangoon (Burma) in 1900 and in a short span of time became one of the leading importers of Hosiery, Textile and various items. In the year 1931 he established a hosiery mill known as Ahmed Violin Hosiery Works Limited in Rangoon. This was at that time considered the largest hosiery mill in Asia with 400 circular machines. Subsequently, he established a textile and blanket factory with a very large printing and finishing plant. These factories are still in existence, but have been nationalised by the Burmese Government.
During second world war Mr. A.E. Bawany migrated to India. He sponsored and organised a joint venture project with leading businessmen of Kathiawar known as "Kathiawar Industries Ltd." These industries were manufacturing cement, leather goods, salt, ghee and margarine in the state of Junagadh. Immediately after the inception of Pakistan Mr. E.A. Bawany migrated to Pakistan to contribute to the economic and industrial development of the new muslim state.
The Bawany Group of Industries consisted of various industrial units in both the wings of Pakistan and were among the leading Industrial groups of Pakistan.
Major investment were made in former East Pakistan which is now known as Bangladesh.
